I am an agronomist graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, specialized in fruit growing and enology, and a winemaker by profession. For fourteen years I worked as a winemaker in wineries across Mexico, Argentina, and Chile, a period that shaped much of the way I observe the world. I complemented that path with graduate studies in arid-zone ecosystem management — where I researched the characterization and viticultural management of the Valle de Guadalupe, in Baja California, using geographic information systems — and with more than a decade of university teaching in enology in Chile and Mexico, where I designed that country’s first graduate program in viticulture and enology. In recent years I have worked in information technology as a software developer. Based in Santiago, Chile, I conceive of this site as a space to gather and share the various subjects I am passionate about.
Photography is the practice that ties many of them together. The axis of my photographic work is light — its behavior, its impact on the natural environment, and its capacity to reveal dimensions of reality that go unnoticed in everyday observation. This interest is rooted in my agronomic training: years of fieldwork, reading ecosystems and productive cycles, developed in me a particular sensitivity toward the processes governed by the sun — photosynthesis, the seasons, the transformation of the landscape according to the time of day and the time of year. Through landscape and urban photography I seek to document how light defines the character of a place: the Andes at dawn, the geometry of a city at dusk, the texture of a landscape under extreme lighting conditions.
That same curiosity about light has always drawn me toward astronomy. I am fascinated that light is the primary means by which humanity knows the universe — that it allows us to observe objects at unimaginable distances and to deduce the physical laws that govern all matter. On this site I will share part of that exploration: observations, readings, and some personal projects related to astronomy.
Wine holds a central place in my story. Fourteen years making wine across different terroirs of the Americas, together with years of teaching enology, leave a mark that does not fade: a way of understanding climate, soil, and time, and a palate formed through countless tastings. I want to devote part of this space to tastings and tasting notes, sharing what the craft taught me about how a place expresses itself in a glass.
Alongside wine comes cooking, its natural extension. Here I will publish some of my favorite recipes — the ones I cook with pleasure and always return to — understanding cooking as another way of working with matter, transformation, and the senses.
Finally, I devote part of my time to amateur radio, a pursuit that combines technique, experimentation, and the pleasure of communicating across distances. I will document some of my personal projects in this area, where electronics and radio waves become, too, a way of exploring the world.
